Girl, 12, is at least 50th child shot in Detroit this year

An verbal confrontation and pushing match between an 18-year-old man and 12-year-old girl devolved into gun violence Tuesday night, Fox 2 reports, citing Detroit police.

The man is said to have opened fire at a park near Denby High School, grazing the 12-year-old's hip with a bullet. Police tell the station they're searching for him and that the girl is expected to recover.

On Aug. 1, Detroit police said 50 children and teens had been shot in the city this year, a slight uptick over the same period last year.
