Doris Biscoe, a graceful, classy anchor and reporter on WXYZ for more than two decades, died Friday, the station reports. She was 77.
A D.C. native, Biscoe jointed WXYZ as a night reporter in 1973 after working as a radio disc jockey in Maryland and hosting a Washington public affairs show. She stayed at WXYZ for more than 25 years.
"If somebody tells me, 'No, you can't do it,' then I'm going to make sure I damn well do it. I'm just that kind of tough nut," she said in a 1998 Detroit Free Press interview.
Biscoe worked as a reporter before joining the evening newscast as an anchor with Rich Fisher. In 1995, she moved to mornings to anchor with Erik Smith.
After leaving WXYZ, she headed up Doris Biscoe Communications, a media training company. She also appeared in ads as a spokesperson for HAP Medicare, the Detroit Free Press reports.
