RFK Jr. Has Dropped Out of Race, But Pollster Says Some Michigan Republicans and Independents Will Still Vote For Him

November 02, 2024, 8:37 AM

In August Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the race and endorsed former President Donald Trump. His campaign told people a vote for Trump was a vote for RFK Jr.

Then RFK Jr. fought in court to get his name removed from the ballot so people wouldn't be tempted to vote for him instead of Trump. He lost at every level and his name remains on the ballot.

Detroit Free Press pollster Bernie Porn tells veteran Lansing reporter Tim Skubick that while RFK brings votes to Trump, remaining on the ballots could siphon votes away, as well.

"He is still taking a share of Republican votes at least at this point, and if that continues well, Trump will have difficulty getting up to the 95% he needs among Republican voters," Porn said in a story posted on Fox 2.

The story says that a recent poll found 5 percent of the Michigan Republicans and 11 percent of the Independents clam they will vote for Kennedy.

At the same time, Porn says that says Dearborn voters, who are angry about the Biden-Harris administration's support of Israel in the Gaza war, may turn to third-party candidate Jill Stein and cost Harris votes.

"Arab American voters vote in concert to support Jill Stein as a protest vote and she's getting two or three points in the mix as well, and she takes votes from Harris," Porn tells Skubick.

That being said, Porn predicts Harris will win Michigan, which has 15 electoral votes.
